My journey from Midwifery to Doula Support
"BIRTH IS NOT ONLY ABOUT MAKING BABIES, IT'S ABOUT MAKING MOTHERS STRONG,COMPETENT, CAPABLE MOTHERS WHO TRUST THEMSELVES AND BELIEVE IN THEIR INNER STRENGTH".BARBARA KATZ ROTHMAN
As a doula, I focus on supporting women physically, emotionally and advocating them thanks to my knowledge and previous experiences as a midwife in Europe. I am fluent in French and in English. Co.Naissance is a contraction of two French words connaissance (which translates into knowledge) and naissance (which translates into birth). I truly believe that providing informational and perinatal support gives women confidence and can help them make the best decisions for their birth experience to be as healthy and positive as possible.
As a midwife in Europe, I have participated in over a hundred births and experienced high risk pregnancies and medicated pregnancies and labors as well as natural childbirths in hospital settings. I have trained mostly in Belgium but also in France and Italy where I could witness different ways of practicing midwifery. During one of my trainings in France, I attended a great amount of births, which were less medicated. Thanks to this experience, I really understood what supporting women in labor meant and it was just so rewarding. Practicing midwifery suddenly became much more. After moving to California, I decided to follow my desire to become a closer and more informational support for women during the perinatal period and trained as a doula. I also deepened my education in various domains in the birth field such as lactation, by becoming a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS), completing many workshops and continuous hours of education as a midwife to keep my knowledge and skills up to date.
I feel proud and privileged to be a doula because this career allows me to witness humanity’s most beautiful moments: the love and birth of a new family.
